Thankfully, I bought the Kindle edition otherwise I would feel terrible about the tree that was sacrificed to make the pages. There was nothing of any substance, it was two-hundred pages telling me to think.Anyone that quotes Nietzsche is suspect when discussing how one should think. Nietzsche is the creator of the ubermensch (superman) philosophy which is the foundation of Nazism. Wells (1998) contends that convictions are a detriment to success and uses a Nietzsche quote that states convictions are more dangerous than lies. Corrupt governments and corporations have been brought to justice because of one person’s conviction. It is conviction that has honored truth and exposed lies. If it were not for conviction our world would be the dark and miserable place Nietzsche wanted everyone to think it was. Lastly, his use of cultural paradigms as examples of doing business do not mesh. Using the example of the extinction of large mainframe computers as a reason to embrace other cultures is apple and oranges. Without a culture and cultural mores and norms then who are we? We all belong to a tribe and that tribe will always influence the way we think. Leaders should not be a person of shifting paradigms that are moved by the wind. Leader should be open minded and fair but at the same time be solid in who they are and in their beliefs. If all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail but you cannot build a cabin with a 250-piece metric socket set either.

Must Have Book

Stuart Wells has given a major gift to anyone who wishes to receive it. For just $40 anyone in a management position who can immerse into this book will find immense treasures that will enhance business and personal thinking skills.
Most business books have a few points and can be skimmed to find them. This well presented book is different. Almost every paragraph has something to offer. No matter what your level, you will be challenged. Certainly some of the concepts are common sense but Wells puts the process together in an organized manner that will challenge and clarify your thinking process.
I am hard to impress, but I am with Stuart Wells. I place his book in the top ten, including those by Drucker. I rate it the best book of this decade.

Sensible, useful, but unexciting

An eminently sensible book in which it's hard to find much with which to disagree. If you haven't thought much about the thinking process and don't have a background in cognitive psychology, this book is well worth reading. If you have, then you'll find it agreeable but not enlightening, though it may remind you of important points that you've forgotten to pay attention to. Wells focuses on flexible thinking and how to ask the right questions. He outlines the strategic thinking cycle: Perceiving, acquiring insight, developing foresight, understanding possibilities, identifying strategic levers, matching levers with capabilities, reasoning, choosing a core strategy, and making the strategy work.
